From Interstate 81 North or South:

Take exit 19 for Abingdon, Virginia, off I-81. From the south, make a right onto US-58 E, from the north, make a left on US-58 E.  Follow US-58 E for 12 miles, through Damascus, to where VA 91 S splits to the south, bear right, and then follow VA 91 for 7.6 miles to Deer Run Road.  Turn right on Deer Run Road and go 0.5 miles to Trout Run Road.  Turn right on Trout Run Road and go 0.5 miles to the Brookside Mountain Cottages entrance on the left.

From Boone, NC, & Mountain City, TN, Area

Take 421 North through Mountain City, Tennessee, then take Route 91 5.7 miles north to Deer Run Road. Turn left on Deer Run Road and go 0.5 miles to Trout Run Road.  Turn right on Trout Run Road and go 0.5 miles to the Brookside Mountain Cottages entrance on the left.
